2009 Golf Tournament at Ibis Golf and Country Club
The inaugural golf tournament was a huge success raising over $20,000.00 for the Sturge-Weber Center at the Kennedy Krieger Institute of Johns Hopkins Hospital. Teams of four golfers participated in a shamble format, 18-hole tournament. Celebrity golfers included former MLB players Gary Carter and Chris Hoiles; Florida Marlins commentator Tommy Hutton; and former NFL players Scott Fitzkee, Scott Hutchinson, Qadry Ismail, James Jones, Lydell Mitchell, Dave Reavis, and Jed Weaver.
In addition to the golf and auctions, participants and guests enjoyed a celebrity meet-and-greet, exquisite lunch and dinner buffets, and an awards ceremony to end the evening. Longest Drive was awarded to Steve Altshuler and Andrea Sigulim. Scott Fitzkee and Andrea Sigulim were the Closest to the Pin winners. Ron Fishkind won the Straightest Drive competition. The top three teams in the tournament were awarded gift certificates. The first place golfers were Rickey Mittelberg, Bill Rice, Mark Twogood, and Scott Fitzkee, with a score of 113. Second place finishers were Saul Sigulim, Andrea Sigulim, Kenneth Goldblatt, and Gary Carter, with a 120. Finishing third with a score of 121 was the team of Paul Valove, Ron Fishkind, Gil Abramson, and Tommy Hutton.
Each participant in the tournament received a swag bag which included Nike golf balls, an Under Armour golf polo, and Under Armour socks, donated by Gold Toe Moritz. Items auctioned off live included a personal tour of ESPN Studios in Bristol,Connecticut, two VIP New Jersey Nets game packages, and two signed lithographs by artist Vicki Aisner-Porter. The silent auction included various sports memorabilia – including items autographed by Joe Theisman, Cal Ripken, Jr., Joe Torre, Mia Hamm, and the 2008-2009 New York Rangers – as well as jewelry, apparel and other miscellaneous items. The auction was the result of contributions from many generous donors.
